Macintosh Tech Support and FAQs

The current LucisArt 3.0.4 works in Lion. The Macintosh LucisArt 3.0.3 (sold before January 2011) does not install on a Lion (Mac OS 10.7) computer.

Choose Go > Applications from the Finder menu. Open the Adobe Photoshop CS5 Application folder. Click on the Adobe Photoshop CS5.app file. Choose File > Get Info from the menu. Check the "Open in 32-bit Mode" check box. Close the Get Info window. Launch Photoshop CS5 and it will open in 32-bit mode.

Macintosh Computer Requirements

Intel Macintosh computer with OS 10.5 to 10.7 and with 4 GB of RAM and Adobe Photoshop CS3 or CS4 or CS5 operated in 32-bit mode or Adobe Photoshop Elements 6 - 8. A minimum of 2 GB of RAM is required.

The Macintosh version will not work in earlier versions of Photoshop and Photoshop Elements nor will it work in Photoshop software on an Intel Macintosh computer run using Rosetta.

Macintosh Software Technical Support Overview: All purchases have a 2 week free technical support period whereby ICT will provide the software and serial number should a customer have a problem with the online store. All customers must back up the LucisArt 3 serial number and software in case they need to reinstall LucisArt 3. The cost of LucisArt 3 is now so low that if a customer loses their software or serial number they must repurchase the program as this is cheaper than paying for technical support.

Macintosh Photoshop CS5: The Macintosh LucisArt 3 works in the 32-bit version of CS5. The Macintosh LucisArt 3 is 32-bit software. It will not work in the 64-bit version of CS5. The only issue is that CS5 when run in 32-bit mode will only access 2 GB of RAM.  CS4 accesses up to 3 GB of RAM.  So please make sure that your preferences are set so Photoshop can access 70% of RAM and make sure all other Adobe applications are off when using LucisArt 3. LucisArt 3 will work better in CS3 or CS4 than CS5.

Switching from the Macintosh Photoshop CS5 64-bit mode to 32-bit mode: Make sure Photoshop is off. Choose Go > Applications from the Finder menu. Find the Adobe Photoshop CS5 Application folder and open it. Click on the Adobe Photoshop CS5.app file. Choose File > Get Info from the menu. Check the "Open in 32-bit Mode" check box. Close the Get Info window. Launch Photoshop CS5 and it will open in 32-bit mode.

Memory Management. LucisArt 3 image processing is an extremely memory-intensive process. If you have 4 GB of RAM or more you should be able to process 250 MB images (CS3) to 350 MB images (CS4x64) without using memory tiling.  With memory tiling images up to 4 GB can be processed by dividing the image into sections or tiles, processing each tile separately, and then reassembling the tiles into the final image. Please click here to learn more about LucisArt memory management and how to troubleshoot "Not enough RAM" errors.

IMPORTANT: As you use Photoshop the RAM Photoshop accesses becomes fragmented. So if you have been using LucisArt 3 with no problem and then at some point get a “need to tile message” it means the RAM is fragmented. To defrag the RAM select Edit | Purge | All. Or you can restart Photoshop.

Macintosh LucisArt 3 Installation Instructions

Note- The LucisArt 3 installer registers your copy of LucisArt 3 and places the LucisArt 3 ED (and LucisArt 3 SE if purchased) plug-in into the filters folder which is under the plug-ins folder in Photoshop. If you have LucisArt 3 installed on a computer in one version of Photoshop and you install a second version of Photoshop you have to install LucisArt 3 into that second version of Photoshop. This also applies if you purchase a Photoshop upgrade. You can do this by the process described below or simply copy the LucisArt 3 ED (and LucisArt SE) plug-in from the filters folder in your old version of Photoshop into the filters folder (which is under the plug-ins folder) of your second version of Photoshop. Photoshop must be off during the LucisArt 3 installation or restarted after installation.

1. Photoshop must be off. Access your backup copy of LucisArt 3.

2. Click on the zip file to extract LucisArt 3 ED.pkg (for LucisArt_3_ED orders) or LucisArt_3_ED-SE.pkg (for LucisArt 3 ED/SE orders). Double click this file to start the installation.

3. The Standard Install Warning screen is displayed. Select Continue.

4. The Welcome screen is displayed. Select the Continue button.

5. The Software License Agreement screen will be displayed.

6. Read the Software License Agreement carefully and then select the Continue button. Indicate your acceptance of the Software License Agreement by clicking on the Agree button on the panel that appears. If you do not accept the terms of the Software License Agreement, do not install the LucisArt 3 ED / SE demo software.

7. The Select a Destination screen will be displayed. Select your system volume and click the Continue button. (Some Macintosh installations will not display this screen.) Select the Next button.

8. Enter your serial number and select the Continue button.

9. The Choose Host Applications screen will be displayed. Select one or more of the listed host applications. If your application is not displayed in the list select the “Other…” entry. Select the Continue button. If you selected the “Other…” entry on the previous screen, a dialog will be displayed. Navigate to your application’s plug-ins folder and click the Open button.

10. The Install screen will be displayed. Select the Install button. You will be prompted for an administrator password and then the installation will proceed.

11. Once installation is complete, the Install Succeeded screen will be displayed.

12. Click the Close button. LucisArt 3 ED and LucisArt 3 SE are ready to use if you have CS3 or CS4.

13. If you are using Photoshop CS5 you must switch into 32-bit mode. To operate CS5 in 32-bit mode: Make sure Photoshop is off.

14. Back up your serial number and software.

How do I back up my purchase of the downloadable LucisArt 3? Copy the LucisArt 3 ED.pkg or LucisArt 3 ED-SE.pkg file (as appropriate) to a CD or DVD, label the CD or DVD LucisArt 3 ED or LucisArt 3 ED/SE as appropriate, and add a printed copy of the e-mail with the serial number and a printed copy of this web page to the jewel case so your downloadable software is backed up in case you need to reinstall your LucisArt 3 software.

LucisArt 3 is grayed out. What is wrong? LucisArt 3 is grayed out when the image you have selected is not compatible with LucisArt 3. LucisArt 3 only processes 8- bit images.

I installed lucisArt 3 into CS5 and it does not appear in the filters pull down menu. What is wrong? First try restarting CS5. Then check to see that LucisArt 3 is installed. If LucisArt 3 is installed you will see LucisArt 3 ED (and LucisArt 3 SE if you bought LucisArt 3 ED/SE) in the filters folder which is under the plug-ins folder in Photoshop. If LucisArt 3 is installed and it does not appear in the pull down menu then you are not running Photoshop CS5 in 32-bit mode. Please see how to run CS5 in 32-bit mode or contact Adobe for more help.

How do I move my LucisArt 3 preset information to a new computer or back it up?

The LucisArt 3 presets are saved in a preset file named com.lucis.LucisArt3ED.xml for LucisArt 3 ED and com.lucis.LucisArt3SE.xml for LucisArt 3 SE. So if you own LucisArt 3 ED you will have one preset file. If you own LucisArt 3 ED/SE you will have two preset files.

On the Mac, the preset files will be in /Users/<username>/Library/Preferences.

You can simply copy the preset files and move them to the same place on another computer, and the next time you open LucisArt 3 they will be read. If you uninstall and reinstall LucisArt 3 on a computer the preset files remain and the reinstalled LucisArt 3 software will access them.

If you have important presets you should back up the preset files by copying it to a CD or DVD.

On how many computers may I legally install LucisArt 3? You may install LucisArt 3 on one desktop and one laptop computer for your use only. Only one copy of LucisArt 3 may be used at one time. Please read the End User License Agreement for more information.

What happens if I need to reinstall LucisArt 3 and I have lost my back up copy or my back up DVD? If you buy the LucisArt 3 downloadable software you must back up the software and serial number so you can reinstall the software without assistance from ICT. Paid Technical support will be available for purchase should you lose your backup copy of LucisArt 3 after your 1-week free technical support period has expired. Purchased technical support will be available until January 1, 2014 at least.

Will the Macintosh LucisArt 3 work on a non Intel Macintosh computer? The Macintosh LucisArt 3 will only operate on an Intel Macintosh computer. Please see System Requirements for more information.
